Improving the UX of Making Transfers

Project: Ant Bank App + Ant Bank Mini App on Alipay

Background

Project: UX & UI Design
Role: UX & UI Designer
Time: 2021

Ant Bank is a virtual bank launched by Ant Group, an affiliate company of Alibaba Group and the owner of Alipay, the world’s largest mobile payment platform. In 2020 and 2021, Ant Group launched its first virtual banks in Hong Kong and Macau.  Together with a Senior UX Designer, we worked on the design of the Transfer and e-Statement features on both the Ant Bank app and the Ant Bank Mini App inside AlipayHK and Alipay CN, which allows users to transfer HKD or MOP.

Design Goal & Process

Impact & Results

The design goal was to allow users to quickly and safely transfer HKD or MOP to recipients. Thus, we made the copywriting of instructions and error messages easy-to-understand and kept the user flow as short as possible.

To ensure the safety of funds, there was a long process of approval by several parties, taking around half a year from design to launch: Design > Development > QA testing > Independent Assessor > Approval by Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Monetary Authority of Macao > Sandbox Testing > Launch

The Transfer feature was launched on Ant Bank (Hong Kong) in early 2021 and on Ant Bank (Macau) in mid 2021. Transfers were almost instantaneous - users would be able to receive funds within seconds of the transfer being initiated, thanks to the Faster Payment System infrastructure.
